Celebrating the 2026 HCF Grant Cycle

The Hillsboro Community Foundation is excited to announce the results of the 2026 community grant cycle. This year brought a strong group of applications from organizations that are deeply committed to supporting local families, building community connections, and improving the quality of life in Hillsboro. After a careful review process by the volunteer grant committee, several projects were selected for funding through the Hillsboro Impact Fund and the Helen and Laurine Schafer Charitable Fund.

Hillsboro Impact Fund Recipients

Support from the Impact Fund will advance a wide range of local projects that strengthen well being and create new opportunities for Hillsboro residents. This year’s recipients are leading efforts that address food security for children and families, support leadership development, supply essential pantry items, and enhance important public spaces. Together, these projects highlight the spirit of collaboration and community care that defines Hillsboro and reflect key areas of need that the Foundation has identified as priorities for long term community health.

  • Hillsboro United Methodist Church for the Snack Pack Program
  • Families and Communities Together for the Family Financial Assistance Network
  • Main Street Ministries for Leadership Coaching and Team Building
  • Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church for Community Pantry Goods
  • City of Hillsboro for the Pickleball Courts Lighting Project

Helen and Laurine Schafer Charitable Fund Recipient

Helen (1925–2019) and Laurine (1921–2008), sisters from Durham and lifelong civil servants, traveled widely and cared deeply for their community. Their estate gift to the Hillsboro Community Foundation is designed to help support healthcare initiatives in and around the Hillsboro area. The Helen and Laurine Schafer Charitable Fund selected a project focused on providing nutritious meals for children during the summer months. This support helps ensure that local youth have consistent access to reliable food resources when school is not in session.

A Strong Year of Community Support

The 2026 grant cycle demonstrated just how many organizations are working hard to meet needs across the community. The Foundation is grateful for the dedication of each applicant and for the generosity of the donors who make these grants possible. Their commitment allows the Foundation to invest in programs that create a positive and lasting impact for Hillsboro residents.

Looking Ahead

The Hillsboro Community Foundation remains dedicated to supporting local projects that build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community. We look forward to seeing these funded programs come to life throughout the year and to continuing our mission of empowering local organizations to serve and inspire.
