2024 September Match Event

Scholarships are more than just financial aid; they represent hope, opportunity, and a brighter
future for students and for our community. The Hillsboro Community Foundation is committed
to helping students achieve their dreams and build for the future by providing donors with the
opportunity and tools to supply financial support.

HCF donors have awarded $130,000 in scholarships to support higher education opportunities
over the past 13 years. Eleven scholarship funds have been established to date with current
endowment assets of $450,000.

The Dollars 4 Scholars campaign is an opportunity to grow these scholarship assets with the
help of a matching grant from the Patterson Family Foundation. This in turn will increase
endowment earnings and the dollar amount of scholarship awards that can be given out to
graduating students each year.

The Patterson Family Foundation has made a $70,000 matching grant available to HCF, of which
$55,000 is earmarked for scholarship funds. Each of the eleven funds is eligible for a $5,000
match.

Our goal is to raise [$70,000] in scholarship donations, which will add a total of [$125,000] in
new contributions when matched by the earmarked grant portion. [Need to decide on the
target amount]

The matching grant is only available for donations made during the month of September 2024.
Donations may be made online or by check made out to Hillsboro Community Foundation.

How the Match Works

  • Donors may make a donation to a specific scholarship fund or to the overall scholarship
campaign. If no fund is specified, HCF will assign the donation to a scholarship fund.
  • Donations to each scholarship fund are matched by the Patterson Family Foundation up
to $5,000 per fund, doubling the amount of new contributions until $10,000 in total is
    reached.
  • Once the $5,000 match threshold is reached for a scholarship fund, the match portion
from additional donations to the fund is applied to any scholarship fund that may not
have met its match threshold. The donor portion remains with the original specified
    scholarship fund.
  • Upon application of the full $55,000 scholarship matching contributions, the remaining
$15,000 available match portion will be applied to the HCF Operating Fund for ongoing
    development and promotional purposes.
