Funds

The following are current Hillsboro Community Foundation funds, along with the purpose for each fund. Unless otherwise noted, each fund is an endowment in which only the earnings are distributed, typically on an annual basis.
Contributions may be made to an existing fund, or you may create your own fund.
Administrative Funds
| Donate | Hillsboro Community Foundation Operating Fund To fund operational and promotional expenses of the Hillsboro Community Foundation to assure stability for service to future generations. Fund contributions and earnings are both available for use. |
| Donate | Hillsboro Community Foundation Operating Endowment To provide an ongoing source of funds for the operation and sustainability of the Hillsboro Community Foundation. |
Community Improvement Funds
| Donate | Community Wellness Endowment To fund solutions for local health and wellness needs by partnering with community-based health organizations, aiming to protect and promote the health and well-being of individuals and the community. Note: Core endowment supporting the Hillsboro Community Child Care Center (H4C) |
| Donate | Hillsboro Community Arts Fund To inspire creativity, foster community, and enrich lives by promoting and supporting the diverse arts and cultural expressions that make Hillsboro a vibrant and inspiring place. |
| Donate | Hillsboro Community Development Fund To provide general support for Hillsboro community projects directed by the Hillsboro Development Corporation to enhance quality of life and create a strong business climate. |
| Donate | Hillsboro Community Fund To support efforts that involve improving the quality of life for the Hillsboro community. Fund contributions and earnings are both available for distribution. |
| Donate | Hillsboro Community Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund To support programs and services providing immediate and long-term recovery services and support following a local disaster or community incident. Fund contributions and earnings are both available for distribution. Read More |

| Donate | Hillsboro Give $360 Fund To provide a $1 per day contribution plan through an annual or periodic gift throughout the year. Amounts received are divided equally between the Hillsboro Impact Fund and Hillsboro Community Fund. |
Estate & Legacy Funds
| Donate | Clariece and Dean Schroeder Endowed Fund To ensure the enduring legacy of the Hillsboro Scout House, a cherished community gathering place, by providing the necessary funds for its ongoing maintenance and upkeep. |
| Donate | David F. Wiebe Memorial Fund for the Hillsboro Pioneer Adobe House and Museum David (1930–2011) taught high school across Kansas and spent summers from 1984 to 2002 as Director of Museums in Hillsboro. After his passing, his brother Raymond honored his legacy with a $50,000 endowment to support the Hillsboro Pioneer Adobe House and Museum. |
| Donate | Helen and Laurine Schafer Charitable Fund Helen (1925–2019) and Laurine (1921–2008), sisters from Durham and lifelong civil servants, traveled widely and cared deeply for their community. Their estate gift supports healthcare initiatives in the Hillsboro area and aids professionals at Newton Medical Center. |
| Donate | John and Delores Dalke Mental Wellness Endowment John and Delores, a devoted Hillsboro couple, served their community in many ways, Delores as a longtime mayor and co-founder of the Hillsboro Community Foundation, and John as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and skilled mechanic. Their endowment supports mental health initiatives that strengthen well-being and resilience in Hillsboro. |
| Donate | Marga Ebel Health Fund As a former teacher who worked with disadvantaged youth, Marga wanted to ensure kids had access to quality healthcare. Her legacy lives on through the Marga Ebel Children’s Dental Program, which provides dental care assistance to USD 410 families and supports other child health initiatives within the community. |
Organizational Funds
| Donate | Childcare Center Expendable Fund To provide financial resources for the establishment of the Hillsboro Community Childcare Center located in the Trinity Community Center. Fund contributions and earnings are both available for distribution. |
| Donate | Hillsboro Area Museums Fund To support area museums and the costs associated with preservation of local historic structures, including the Bartel House, a historic home of the region. Contributions and earnings are available for distribution. |
| Donate | Hillsboro Community Library Fund To provide resources related to the Hillsboro Public Library. In particular, distributions are to support library programs, services, operations and outreach initiatives. Contributions and earnings are available for distribution. |

| Donate | Kiwanis Opportunity Endowment To support charitable activities and supplement community projects that enhance the quality of life in Hillsboro and surrounding communities. |
| Donate | Lehigh City Parks Endowment To beautify, create, and enhance inviting public areas of Lehigh for all to enjoy. |
| Donate | Marion County 4-H Endowment To provide ongoing support of Marion County 4-H activities, including education, citizenship and leadership development and other projects to help nurture the next generation of leaders, innovators, and compassionate citizens. |
| Donate | Parkside Homes, Inc. Endowment To provide support for Parkside Homes in the areas of capital improvements, scholarships for staff enrichment and the benevolent fund. |
| Donate | Salem Home Charitable Fund To provide support for Salem Home operational requirements in addressing resident needs. Fund contributions and earnings are both available for distribution. |
| Donate | USD 410 Early Childhood Education Endowment To nurture young minds and strengthen families by supporting early childhood education. This includes enhancing children’s readiness for school, promoting early literacy, and providing high-quality care and support. |
Scholarship Funds
| Donate | C.M. Sextro Memorial Math Scholarship To recognize and support the academic aspirations of deserving Hillsboro High School graduates who have chosen to pursue higher education paths that emphasize advanced mathematics. |
| Donate | Demarius Lives Scholarship To recognize and reward exceptional Hillsboro High School graduates who embody strong character and demonstrate a passion for communication and journalism, as they embark on their higher education journeys. |
| Donate | Earl and Mary Lee Wineinger Memorial Scholarship To empower the next generation of skilled workers by recognizing and rewarding deserving Marion County High School graduates who have chosen to pursue vocational education. |
| Donate | Free Press/Joel Klaassen Journalism Scholarship To recognize and support the future journalists and media professionals of Marion County and Canton-Galva, by awarding deserving graduates of Marion County High Schools or Canton-Galva High School who are pursuing degrees in journalism or other multimedia fields. |
| Donate | Gehring Family Tech Scholarship To empower the next generation of skilled tradespeople by recognizing and rewarding deserving Marion County High School graduates who are pursuing technical education in fields like electrical technology, HVAC, and plumbing. |
| Donate | Glenn and Janice Goertz Scholarship To recognize and support the future business leaders of our community by awarding deserving Hillsboro and Marion High School graduates who are pursuing higher education in business. |
| Donate | Hillsboro High School Citizenship Award To recognize and honor exceptional Hillsboro High School students who exemplify the ideals of good citizenship, as defined by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. |
| Donate | Hillsboro Trojan Family Memorial Scholarship To award eligible Hillsboro High School graduates based on financial need, participation in school activities, and community involvement. Donor-Advised Funds are typically family or memorial funds in which the donors determine and advise the foundation on how their gifts are to be distributed in support of the Hillsboro community, surrounding area, or charities of their choice.
